Before we get down to the nitty gritty of things, let’s first talk about why we’re even discussing whether or not to have a business coach. The thing is, there are several misconceptions about having one and these misconceptions have caused several business startups (even established ones) to miss the invaluable benefits of having a business coach.
It’s precisely because of this, that we need to Runcover the myths that are preventing several business owners to have a business coach, and to show an example of business owners that have tremendously benefited from having one.
So what myths are we talking about here? Here are a couple that might seem true at first glance, but once you’ve given it a deeper thought, you’ll find that you’re way off the mark:
1.) Business coaches are for business owners who don’t know how to run their businesses.
2.) Business coaches are for the inexperienced entrepreneurs.
3.) Those that have business coaches are at such a problematic that they needed to hire a business coach.
While there are tons of other myths about business coaching, these three are probably the most commons ones. These ideas however, are just that – myths!
A lot of business owners have tremendously benefited from having a business coach. A good example would be Brittany Hodak and her co-founder Kim Kaupe of ZinePak.
Their business coach Marla Tabaka has helped them in taking their business to the next level. They have found Marla to be instrumental to their business’s growth and an indispensable part of their team.
Apart from the high level meeting that both Brittany and Kim have with Marla, Marla also helps them with advice on softer things like how to bring in more investors, how to deal with employees disrespecting each other, and unrealistic client expectations (among many others).
These are just some of the many ways that a business coach can help you. Thinking that you can’t afford to have one is a pretty backwards way of looking at it. Instead of thinking of it that way, you need to ask yourself whether or not you can afford NOT to have one. Considering how the rate for start-up failures is at a whopping 50% – 70%, it’d be a wise move not to take the idea of having a business coach lightly.
It’s your turn!
Have you experienced having a business coach? What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten from them and what tips would you like to give to the entrepreneurs who are reluctant to having one? It’s your time to share.
